What is AMF Controller?

AMF Controller stands for Automatic Mains-Failure Controller. This product is the heart of an AMF control panel. An AMF Control Panel monitors the health of AC mains supply (220V). If the AC mains goes out of range, the a DG (diesel generator) is cranked and turned on and load is transferred to the DG. If however AC mains comes back in range, the DG is turned off and load is transferred to AC mains.

How does AMF Controller work?

AMF controller is a micro-controller based system. This system has circuitry that can monitor upto 3-phase mains 220vAC directly. The user needs to directly connect the phase and neutral terminals on the AMF Controller. The voltage and frequency of the monitored AC mains is shown on the LCD on the front panel. Using the press buttons on the front panel, the user can set the range of "healthy" AC mains. If the AC mains becomes unhealthy by going out of range, the monitoring circuit signals the micro-controller of the same. The micro-controller waits for a pre-defined amount of time (as programmed by the user) and then turns on an on-board relay. This relay in turn in connected to the starter of the DG giving it a signal to crank the DG. Upto 5 attempts can be programmed by the user to start the DG. Other parameters like crank time, LLOP delay etc. can also be programmed by the user on site. All programmable parameters are protected by a password so that unauthorized users cannot make changes to the settings of the system.

Once the DG is started, various parameters like LLOP, engine temperature, fuel level, canopy temperature etc. are monitored by the micro-controller. If any of these parameters goes out of range, the DG is turned off by the AMF controller. An alarm audio-visual alarm is raised. The problem is shown on the LCD on the front panel and the designated potential-free contact is turned on for extension of alarm.

How to install?

This product in designed for use by AMF Control Panel manufacturers. The heart of the system along with necessary timers for various delays like start delay are provided in the controller. The manufacturer of the control panel needs to only wire in the sensors, and potential free contacts and the system gets going.
